Before you complain of excessive sweating, it is best to think of the benefit that brings to the body sweating. Our temperature should fluctuate around 36.5 º C and when the body is warm, the sweat glands release variable amounts of sweat on the skin surface, or sweating. It's like a thermostat, which promotes perspiration cooling the body through evaporation of sweat from the skin surface, explains endocrinologist Cyro Guimaraes Junior, professor of Medicine at USP.

That is why, incidentally, that transpiration does not lose weight: There eliminate water and toxins. The process of weight loss during exercise is through energy expenditure, and not by fluid loss.

The intensity of the sweat varies from person to person and depends on several factors, including sex, diet, hydration index, age and number of sweat gland activity. Furthermore, obesity, psychiatric disorders, hyperthyroidism, menopause and stressful situations such as interviews and tests, interfere in the volume of sweating.

And the sweat itself has no odor. The stench arises mainly because the bacteria present in sweat glands metabolize sweat. The byproduct of this process brings the unpleasant smell, says endocrinologist. Too much sweating, called hyperhidrosis, cause embarrassment and asking for medical treatment.

In some cases, excessive sweating is in moments of anxiety and stress, even when the temperature is very low. Considered a disease by the World Health Organization, hyperhidrosis affects 1% of the world and 2 million people in Brazil alone. This excessive sweating is concentrated in the hands, armpits and feet. To control the sweat, you can have surgery or try regular applications of botulinum toxin in the affected areas.

Who suffers from excess weight, you need to worry about diaper rash. According to the endocrinologist, to sweat more without making any physical effort, the obese may suffer from rashes in the folds of the body, underneath the breast, armpit, and friction, the thighs are the areas most susceptible to the problem.

These injuries, which are always wet, can still be a focus for the growth of bacteria or fungi and lead to odor and even infections. To prevent this from happening you need to keep your skin always dry, bathing with antibacterial soaps, deodorants use that help control sweating and appear redder areas that have burning, spend an ointment based on zinc oxide to protect the site.

Some foods also influence the stench. But it is a transient effect: does the time required for the metabolism and excretion of substances responsible for odor. The foods that most commonly cause this effect are those containing sulfur, such as garlic and onions, says nutritionist Marília Ninot. Excessive consumption of protein increases the production of ammonia, giving a sweat smell more intense. Diets with high carbohydrate restriction can also modify the body odor. The increased metabolism of fat produces substances called ketone bodies, causing a characteristic odor. This process can also alter the body odor of diabetics to track specialist.
